The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Marine Fisheries announced on March 19 that the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council will hold its Lines of Communication meetings in North Carolina next week.
The initiative aims to strengthen relationships between fisheries stakeholders and council representatives, providing a platform for open dialogue and information sharing. The meetings are designed to allow attendees to share their perspectives with local council members, staff, and other participants involved in fisheries management.
Four in-person meetings are scheduled along the North Carolina coast: Bolivia on March 23 at the Sandifer Administration Building; Morehead City on March 24 at the NC Division of Marine Fisheries Central District Office; Hatteras on March 25 at the Hatteras Civic Center; and Manteo on March 26 at the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center. Each meeting will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council is one of eight regional councils in the United States responsible for managing fisheries in federal waters. Its jurisdiction covers waters from three to two hundred miles off the coasts of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and east Florida. The council manages species such as dolphin, wahoo, mackerels, snapper, and grouper.
The Division encourages anyone interested in federally managed fish species to attend one of these upcoming meetings. For more information or to RSVP, individuals can contact Christina Curtis at Christina.Wiegand@safmc.net or call 843-302-8437.
