Senator Ted Budd of North Carolina said that the One Big Beautiful Bill Act supports higher wages, a stronger border, a revitalized military, and new opportunities for American workers. These remarks were made on X.

“I voted in favor of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act because the people of North Carolina deserve more of their hard-earned wages, a more secure border, a reinvigorated military, responsible spending reforms for government programs, and a thriving economy,” said Budd. “My colleagues and I fought successfully to protect North Carolina’s tobacco growers to help them stay competitive with China. I am also grateful that this bill included my PELL Act, which will help Americans earn in-demand credentials for rewarding careers. I hope my colleagues in the House quickly get this bill on President Trump’s desk because Americans cannot afford the largest tax increase in our nation’s history.”

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, enacted in July 2025, introduces significant reforms by expanding the Child Tax Credit, boosting wage growth through workforce credentialing investments, allocating $150 billion for border and military funding, and providing targeted relief to farmers. This includes support for North Carolina’s tobacco sector. The Wall Street Journal reports that these provisions have sparked bipartisan debate over their broad economic and social impact.

According to the Congressional Budget Office and the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the legislation is expected to create more than 40,000 new jobs in North Carolina and generate $2.8 billion in statewide economic output. It also aims to improve workforce credentialing access and provide $70 million in direct support for struggling tobacco growers.

The Congressional Budget Office indicates that compared to previous laws such as the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and the 2021 American Rescue Plan, this act offers a greater increase in defense and border funding along with broader family tax relief. However, it will add $2.8 trillion to the national deficit over ten years—surpassing prior fiscal impacts.

Budd is a Republican U.S. Senator from North Carolina who was elected in 2022 after serving three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is recognized for his focus on economic growth, workforce training, national security, and support for agriculture, including North Carolina’s tobacco industry.
