Ted Budd, Republican Senator for North Carolina, said that Americans are overwhelmed by billions of scam calls, including many from overseas. He noted that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is taking action to stop illegal robocalls.
“North Carolinians, and most Americans, are inundated with billions of scam calls that threaten their security, privacy, and hard-earned dollars—many originating from foreign criminals. I’m glad to confirm that the FCC is taking steps to combat the illegal robocalls flooding our phone lines,” said Theodore Paul Budd, U.S. Senator from North Carolina.
According to Senator Ted Budd, he posted a video on X from a Senate hearing where he raised constituent concerns about robocalls. He emphasized the harm these calls cause and questioned the FCC chairman on measures to protect consumers. The clip includes the agency’s response outlining efforts to tackle illegal communications.
North Carolina receives approximately 200 million robocalls each month based on Department of Justice estimates. The state experiences high volumes of scam calls, including those related to warranties and financial services. Local and federal partnerships aim to deploy technologies mitigating these disruptions.
The United States saw over 4 billion robocalls monthly in 2025 according to telecommunications indexes. Scam and telemarketing calls increased compared to previous years. Regulatory bodies enforce protocols to block unauthorized traffic across networks.
Budd was born on October 21, 1971, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He earned degrees from Appalachian State University, Dallas Theological Seminary, and Wake Forest University. Budd owned a retail business before serving in the U.S. House from 2017 to 2023 and then in the Senate.
