North Carolina U.S. Senator Ted Budd emphasized the importance of holding criminals accountable for targeting police officers and commended law enforcement for their commitment to community safety.

“Every day, the brave men and women of law enforcement work around the clock to keep our communities safe,” said Theodore Paul Budd, U.S. Senator from North Carolina. “Any criminal that puts a target on the backs of our police officers must be held firmly accountable for their actions. We must support those who put their lives on the line to protect us. Justice demands accountability for anyone who threatens our law enforcement heroes.”

Senator Budd’s statement underscores his ongoing support for law enforcement and public safety. His office has highlighted various legislative initiatives aimed at enhancing protections for police officers and ensuring that those who attack or target them face significant federal penalties.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) 2024 Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted (LEOKA) report, 79 officers were feloniously killed in the line of duty, highlighting the persistent risks faced by law enforcement personnel across the nation. The report advocates for continued efforts to deter violence against officers.

A study conducted by the National Fraternal Order of Police in 2025 reported over 330 ambush-style attacks on officers since 2020, resulting in 118 deaths. The organization has called on policymakers to strengthen legal consequences for assaults on police.

Senator Budd represents North Carolina in the U.S. Senate. A former businessman and member of the House of Representatives, he champions public safety, national defense, and conservative economic policies that support working families and first responders.
