The City of Greensboro announced on May 1 that residents can apply for one of nine positions on the Ad hoc Committee on African American Disparity (ACAAD) until Sunday, May 31, through an online application.
The ACAAD was established in 2020 by the City Council to address barriers affecting the success of Greensboro’s African American residents. The committee works by researching policies and procedures, gathering community feedback, and making recommendations to improve access to resources for this population.
Committee members serve two-year terms and focus their efforts in five areas: economic and workforce development; education; law enforcement, justice, and accountability; housing and health disparities; and community engagement. According to the city’s announcement, “Committee members serve two-year terms, during which they research policy and procedures, obtain community feedback, and make recommendations to the City Council about how to improve access to resources for the city’s African American population.”
ACAAD is administered by the City’s Human Rights Department. The department aims “to promote mutual understanding, respect, and fair treatment for all Greensboro residents,” regardless of race or other protected characteristics.
