Representative David Rouzer of North Carolina said that the new tax legislation will protect hundreds of thousands of constituents from significant tax increases while supporting local families and businesses. This statement was made on X, a social media platform.
“The One Big Beautiful Bill protects NC-07’s 550,300 taxpayers from the largest tax hike in history,” said David Cheston Rouzer, U.S. Representative from North Carolina. “This bill delivers real relief for working families, farmers, and small businesses.”
The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” passed by the U.S. House in May 2025, aims to permanently extend provisions from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, expand the standard deduction, and enhance the child tax credit. According to the Bipartisan Policy Center, the bill also includes business-friendly policies such as extending bonus depreciation and indexing tax brackets to inflation. While supporters argue it provides long-term relief to families and small businesses, critics warn it could significantly increase the federal deficit over the next decade.
According to Rouzer’s office, if the 2017 tax cuts are allowed to expire, residents of North Carolina’s 7th District could face notable tax hikes. A family of four earning the district’s median income of $66,712 would experience an annual tax increase of $1,278—equivalent to roughly seven weeks of groceries. The increase reflects reversals in the standard deduction, child tax credit, and income tax rates.
The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” proposes increasing the child tax credit from $2,000 to $2,500 temporarily and making it permanently refundable. An analysis by the Ways and Means Republican Forum indicates that it also raises the standard deduction and boosts the small business income deduction from 20% to 23%. These provisions aim to benefit middle-income families and small enterprises; however, many are set to phase out in a few years without further legislation.
Rouzer has represented North Carolina’s 7th Congressional District since 2015 and currently serves on several committees including Agriculture; Transportation and Infrastructure; and Science, Space, and Technology. According to his official House biography, he advocates for pro-growth economic policies and supported the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. His legislative focus includes tax reform, rural development, and regulatory reduction.
