Mark Harris, a U.S. Representative from North Carolina, has accused former FBI Director James Comey of lying about the Russian collusion investigation during the 2016 election and using federal bureaucracy to undermine President Trump. Harris made these statements in a post on the social media platform X.
“James Comey LIED to hide the Russian Collusion Hoax — one of the dirtiest tricks in American history,” said Harris, Representative (R-NC 8). “But he didn’t just lie — he WEAPONIZED bureaucracy to undermine a duly elected President. Justice is finally closing in.”
In his post, Harris linked to an interview conducted between Maria Bartiromo and himself. During this discussion, they talked about how Comey allegedly pushed the Russian collusion narrative, spied on Donald Trump’s 2016 Presidential campaign, and continued surveillance during Trump’s first term. They also discussed the origins of the Russian collusion narrative and alleged false statements made by Comey while under oath.
On Tuesday, September 25th, a federal grand jury charged Comey with serious crimes related to the disclosure of sensitive information. The indictment alleges that Comey obstructed a congressional investigation into this disclosure in violation of 18 USC 1505. It also claims that Comey made a false statement in violation of 18 USC 1001 by denying he authorized someone at the FBI to be an anonymous source.
James B. Comey served as the seventh Director of the FBI from September 4, 2013, to May 9, 2017. A native of Yonkers, New York, Comey graduated from the College of William & Mary and the University of Chicago Law School. After law school, he served as an assistant United States attorney for both the Southern District of New York and the Eastern District of Virginia before returning to New York as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. In 2003, he became deputy attorney general at the Department of Justice.
