Greg Murphy, Representative of North Carolina, said that Iran must be prevented from obtaining nuclear weapons under any circumstances. His remarks were made on the social media platform X.
“EXCELLENT article on why we cannot an Islamic Terrorist nation like Iran to have a nuclear bomb,” said Gregory Francis Murphy, U.S. Representative for North Carolina’s 3rd congressional District (R). “To them the Koran teaches death to all who do not believe like they do. They can never be allowed to have a nuclear bomb. By any means necessary.”
International efforts to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons have intensified since the 2015 nuclear deal unraveled. According to The Wall Street Journal, the United States is pursuing stricter sanctions, expanded military deterrence, and close cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which has increased inspections and diplomatic engagement. These policies reflect renewed urgency over Iran’s nuclear advances and ongoing negotiations with world powers.
According to the latest IAEA reports, Iran possesses uranium enriched up to 60% purity—near weapons grade—and maintains enough stockpile for several nuclear weapons if further enriched. Intelligence assessments for 2025 indicate continued technical progress despite international sanctions.
The Arms Control Association reports that Iran’s nuclear program has advanced more rapidly than prior proliferation cases like North Korea or Libya. This makes Iran’s negotiations with global powers among the most complex and contentious in modern nonproliferation efforts.
Murphy, a Republican representing North Carolina’s 3rd District in the U.S. House since 2019, is a physician who serves on the Ways and Means and Veterans’ Affairs Committees. He is known for his involvement in national security and foreign policy issues, as noted by Ballotpedia.
