Randolph County officials announced on May 1 that a Document Shredding and Medicine Disposal Collection Day will take place on Saturday, May 16, from 8 a.m. until noon at the Randolph County Agricultural Center located at 1880 US Highway 64 East in Asheboro.
The event is free for all participants and aims to provide residents with an opportunity to safely dispose of sensitive documents and unused medications. Sponsors include the Asheboro Police Department, City of Archdale, City of Asheboro, City of Randleman, Keep Randolph County Beautiful, Piedmont Triad Regional Council, Piedmont Triad Regional Water Authority, Randolph County Cooperative Extension, Randolph County Soil and Water, and Stormwater Smart.
According to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, only about 15.9% of senior students in Randolph County school districts who took the science portion of the ACT during the 2022-23 school year were considered ready for college. Among juniors taking the same test that year, just over 14.2% met college readiness standards.
In reading skills assessed by the ACT in the same period, approximately 23.6% of seniors demonstrated college readiness while among juniors it was about 21.1%, according to state education data. For math proficiency as measured by ACT results in Randolph County schools during that year, around 13.1% of seniors were considered ready for college-level work compared with roughly 10.1% among juniors as reported by state education authorities.
