North Carolina’s unemployment holds steady at June’s revised rate

The unemployment rate in North Carolina for June 2025 remained steady at 3.7 percent, the same as May’s revised rate. In contrast, the national unemployment rate saw a slight decrease of 0.1 percentage point to reach 4.1 percent.

Compared to a year ago, North Carolina’s unemployment rate has risen by 0.1 percentage point. The state experienced a reduction in employment with 3,023 fewer people employed over the month, totaling 5,089,852 employed individuals. Over the year, this number decreased by 6,560. Meanwhile, the number of unemployed individuals increased by 464 over the month to reach a total of 197,019 and rose by 5,610 over the year.

In terms of employment sectors within North Carolina, seasonally adjusted Total Nonfarm employment saw an increase of 5,000 jobs in June reaching a total of 5,099,200 jobs. Industries that showed job growth included Private Education & Health Services (3,600), Construction (2,300), Leisure & Hospitality Services (2,100), Professional & Business Services (1,400), Financial Activities (800), and Government (400). However, some industries faced declines: Trade, Transportation & Utilities lost 4,000 jobs; Manufacturing shed 1,300; Information reduced by 100; Other Services decreased by 100; and Mining & Logging also fell by 100.

Since June last year through June this year overall nonfarm jobs have grown by an impressive count of 80,200 positions statewide—with private sector roles accounting for an increase of approximately two-thirds at about roughly66 ,600 more roles filled compared against previous annual periods while government sectors added another nearly fourteen thousand extra workers . Sectors such as Private Education & Health Services grew significantly adding twenty-six thousand six hundred new hires followed closely behind are Professional&BusinessServices along withConstruction seeing nineteen thousand two hundred plus ten thousands respectively meanwhileGovernment reached thirteen-thousand six-hundred additional employees alongside gains observed withinTradeTransportationUtilitiesLeisureHospitalityServicesOtherServicesFinancialActivities all increasing their workforce numbers during these timespan whereas Manufacturing suffered notable losses totaling seven-thousand one-hundred less personnel likewise Information dropped off one-thousand fewer employees lastly MiningLogging held constant no changes reported therefrom .

An update on county-level unemployment rates is expected on Wednesday July30th2025 which will provide further insight into local labor market conditions across various regions throughout state lines .
