Lawmakers are set to return to Raleigh on April 21 for the start of the 2026 short session of the North Carolina General Assembly. While these short sessions typically focus on budget and spending matters, legislators will also address policy issues, according to Gregg Thompson, State Director of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).
“It may be several more weeks before this year’s legislative agenda comes into focus, but our goal will be protecting small businesses from higher taxes, new fees, and burdensome regulations,” Thompson said.
He added: “Small business is the foundation of North Carolina’s economy. As the session moves forward, NFIB will continue to support policies that promote a stable and competitive business climate for job creators across the state.”
The session is expected to shape fiscal priorities as well as regulatory frameworks affecting businesses in North Carolina.
