The North Carolina Environmental Management Commission will hold its next meetings on January 7 and 8, 2026, at the Archdale Building in Raleigh. The public can attend in person or join remotely by computer or phone.
Committee meetings are scheduled for January 7, starting at 9 a.m., followed by the full commission meeting on January 8 at the same time and location. Details about the agenda and supporting documents are available on the Commission’s website.
The Environmental Management Commission is responsible for adopting rules to protect, preserve, and enhance North Carolina’s air and water resources. The Commission also oversees rulemaking for several divisions of the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), including Air Quality, Land Resources, Waste Management, and Water Resources.
The DEQ manages and protects North Carolina’s natural resources through its various divisions focused on areas such as air quality regulation, waste management, coastal protection, and water resource oversight. The agency operates statewide through regional offices that support local oversight and stewardship. More information about DEQ’s mission to deliver science-based environmental stewardship is available on its official website.
The DEQ also provides public education and assistance to promote environmental compliance across communities in North Carolina. Its central office is located at 217 West Jones Street in Raleigh. The department was established in 2015 following a restructuring of the former Department of Environmental and Natural Resources.
