The North Carolina Department of Commerce announced on Mar. 20 the launch of the County Economic Vitality Index (EVI) interactive dashboard, a new tool designed to help users explore economic trends across all 100 counties in the state.

The dashboard aims to provide economic developers, local officials, researchers, and residents with accessible data for comparing county performance against national benchmarks. By offering insights into unemployment, wages, median household income, and educational attainment, the tool allows users to assess both current standings and long-term trends in their communities.

According to the department’s announcement, the dashboard is organized into four main components: a statewide map showing composite EVI scores from 2010 through 2024; an area profile feature that provides detailed data and trend graphs for individual counties; a comparison tool for analyzing multiple counties or regions side by side; and a rankings section that includes sortable tables and charts highlighting top performers and most improved areas.

The department said every county score is benchmarked annually against the U.S. average. This approach enables meaningful comparisons across counties and helps illustrate how local conditions are changing relative to national norms over time.

Users can access the County EVI dashboard at analytics.nccommerce.com/economic-vitality-index. The department also indicated that future articles will highlight key insights drawn from this data.
