The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) will hold its upcoming meeting on February 25 and 26 at the Dunes Club, located at 710 E. Fort Macon Road in Atlantic Beach. The public is invited to attend either in person or online.

On February 25, the Coastal Resources Advisory Council (CRAC), a group that offers local government input and advice to the CRC, will meet in person at 10 a.m. The full commission meeting is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. that day and will continue at 9 a.m. on February 26. There will be an in-person public comment period starting at 9:05 a.m. on February 26, with sign-ups available upon arrival.

Those interested can join the full CRC meeting through the Department of Environmental Quality’s (DEQ) YouTube channel. Meeting agendas and briefing materials are accessible on the CRC website, though agenda items may change order.

The CRC sets policies for the North Carolina Coastal Management Program and establishes rules under CAMA and the N.C. Dredge and Fill Act. It also designates areas of environmental concern, adopts rules for coastal development within those areas, and certifies local land use plans.

The Department of Environmental Quality supports public education and environmental compliance efforts across North Carolina to promote community awareness and stewardship, according to its official website. The department’s mission includes providing science-based environmental stewardship that aims to protect both health and prosperity statewide (source). Its regulatory authority covers air, land, water, and coastal environments throughout North Carolina (source). Services provided by DEQ include air quality regulation, permit issuance, enforcement of environmental laws, waste management oversight, and water resource management (source). As a state agency focused on protecting natural resources and environmental quality in North Carolina (source), DEQ operates from its central office in Raleigh (source).
