The North Carolina Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve have scheduled Spring local advisory committee meetings on April 22 and 23. These in-person meetings are open to the public and will cover discussions regarding reserve sites.
On April 22, the meeting will take place at 3 p.m. at the Rachel Carson Reserve, located at the NOAA Beaufort Laboratory’s Administration Building, 101 Pivers Island Rd, Beaufort, NC. The following day, April 23, the meeting will be held at 1 p.m. at Kitty Hawk Woods Reserve, Kitty Hawk Town Hall, 101 Veterans Memorial Dr, Kitty Hawk, NC.
Local advisory committees consist of residents and representatives from community groups, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations. They provide input and feedback to the Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve staff on program activities and the management of reserve sites.
The North Carolina Division of Coastal Management, a branch of the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality, aims to protect and manage the state’s coastal resources in 20 coastal counties. The Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve Program specifically focuses on safeguarding natural areas for education, research, and traditional uses. Established in 1989, the program has preserved over 44,000 acres of unique coastal environments across ten sites along the coast.
