The North Carolina Board of Agriculture is scheduled to convene on Tuesday, July 8, at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Martin Building located at the N.C. State Fairgrounds in Raleigh.
During this session, several topics are on the agenda. The board will review and consider rules introduction for final agency determination for approval. These include various sections such as animal disease, control of livestock disease, marketing of livestock, pen-raised quail, biologics, garbage-fed swine, and rendering plants. Dr. Michael Martin, who serves as the State Veterinarian and Division Director of the Veterinary Division, will present these items.
Additionally, there will be a presentation by Dr. Karen Beck regarding meat and poultry inspection regulations. Dr. Beck is the Division Director of the Meat and Poultry Inspection Division.
Facility rental rates are also on the docket for discussion. Peter Thornton from the Marketing Division will present agricultural and farmer’s market rates while Kaleb Rathbone, Assistant Commissioner WNC, will discuss WNC rental rates.
Board members will provide industry updates and address other business matters during this meeting.
The Board of Agriculture plays a crucial role in policymaking by adopting regulations for numerous programs managed by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Members are appointed by the governor with the Commissioner of Agriculture serving as chairman.
