A new traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of Midtown Market Avenue and Perry Creek Road in northeast Raleigh, according to a May 6 announcement. The city said the signal is intended to improve safety and make it easier for people traveling to River Bend Elementary School and nearby neighborhoods.
The intersection now features crosswalks equipped with accessible pedestrian signals that make sounds to assist people with vision impairments when crossing the street. This addition is part of efforts to support safer travel as the 5401 North area continues to grow.
The City of Raleigh’s Vision Zero Program funded and managed construction of this project. Vision Zero aims “to reduce and prevent serious injuries and deaths on our roadways while creating a safer and more accessible transportation system for all,” according to information provided by the city.
Raleigh operates under an elected city council supported by a city manager who oversees daily operations, shapes policy, manages budgets, and delivers public services according to the official website. The City of Raleigh serves districts A through E within North Carolina, making decisions on local ordinances such as recent changes made in 2024 regarding election terms according to the official website.
Broader improvements like these reflect ongoing efforts by local government bodies not only in transportation but also across other aspects of community life. The City of Raleigh highlights its commitment through programs like Vision Zero as well as its contributions in areas such as sports, including teams like the Stanley Cup-winning Carolina Hurricanes according to the official website.
