The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources (DWR) will hold a public hearing on September 25 to gather public input on a proposed amendment related to laboratory certification rules. The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Ground Floor Hearing Room at the Archdale Building, located at 512 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh, NC. Sign-in and speaker registration will begin at 5:45 p.m.

The N.C. Environmental Management Commission is proposing changes to rule 15A NCAC 02H .0804, which would add total nitrogen and pharmaceutical pollutants to the list of parameters that the Wastewater/Groundwater Laboratory Certification Branch (WW/GW LCB) can certify.

“The scope of parameter methods for which WW/GW LCB may offer certification is limited to parameters listed in 15A NCAC 02H .0804.”

If approved, this amendment would allow commercial laboratories providing analytical services to request certification for these additional parameters. It would also enable permittees to report certified data as required by current regulations.

In addition to offering verbal comments during the hearing, members of the public can submit written feedback until September 30. Written comments should be sent by mail to Laboratory Certification Branch Manager, 1623 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1623 or by email to DEQ.WR.CertificationRuleComments@deq.nc.gov.
