NC State wrestling defeats CSU Bakersfield with dominant performance in California

NC State wrestling achieved a strong victory against CSU Bakersfield, winning 43-3 in a neutral-site dual held at Gilroy High School in California. This win marks the Wolfpack’s 11th of the season and brings their record to 2-0 on their West Coast trip.

The team won nine out of ten matches, with eight of those victories coming with bonus points. The Wolfpack secured two falls, four technical falls, and two major decisions during the event.

Freshman Jason Kwaak competed at 157 lbs for his second appearance this season and earned a win over his opponent. Isaac Trumble finished the match with his fourth fall of the season, bringing his total to seven bonus point wins out of nine bouts.

NC State will return home next to face North Carolina for alumni night at Reynolds Coliseum on Friday.

Results from the dual are as follows:
At 125 lbs, Richard Castro-Sandoval (CSUB) defeated Brad Yokum (NCSU), 6-3. At 133 lbs, Zach Redding (NCSU) scored a major decision over Saxton Scott (CSUB), 14-6. Ryan Jack (NCSU), ranked #12, won by technical fall over Mikey Folch (CSUB), 20-4. Koy Buesgens (NCSU), ranked #5, also claimed a technical fall against Hayden Zinkin (CSUB), 23-6. Jason Kwaak (NCSU) defeated Jose Farias (CSUB) by decision at 157 lbs, while Will Denny (#16 NCSU) took a technical fall win against Evan Manzo (CSUB). Matty Singleton (#5 NCSU) achieved a major decision over Guillermo Escobedo (CSUB). Don Cates recorded a fall against Jeremy Manibog for NC State at 184 lbs. Patrick Brophy (#27 NCSU) won by technical fall versus Chris Neal at 197 lbs. In the heavyweight division, Isaac Trumble (#2 NCSU) closed with a fall over Mason Cover.
