NC State wrestling has added Patrick Brophy, a transfer from The Citadel, to its roster. Head coach Pat Popolizio confirmed that Brophy, who is from Chapin, South Carolina, is eligible to compete immediately as a redshirt-junior for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

Brophy joined the Wolfpack roster last week and made his debut on Sunday, December 21. He competed in three matches that day and won all of them.

Before transferring to NC State, Brophy spent three years at The Citadel. During his time there, he was regularly ranked individually by InterMat at 197 pounds and qualified for the 2025 NCAA Championships held in Philadelphia.

Last season, Brophy earned a silver medal at the Southern Scuffle after winning four matches, including two by major decision.

In high school at Chapin High School, Brophy participated in multiple sports such as football, cross country, baseball, wrestling, and track and field. He was also recognized academically as a member of the AB Honor Roll. In his senior year of wrestling, he had an undefeated season that culminated in a state championship title and recognition as an NHSCA High School Nationals All-American at 195 pounds.

“Pat Popolizio has officially added Citadel transfer Patrick Brophy to the Wolfpack roster,” according to the team announcement.
