NC State sends wrestlers to Southeast Open as new season begins

NC State’s wrestling team, ranked seventh nationally, will send 15 athletes to compete in the Southeast Open this weekend. The event marks the start of the 2025-26 collegiate wrestling season and will take place at the Cregger Center in Salem, Virginia, beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

A live stream of all matches is scheduled to be available through FloWrestling. Participating teams include Appalachian State, Campbell University, Citadel, Coker, Davidson College, Franklin & Marshall, Gardner-Webb, George Mason, Marymount, Morgan State, NC State, Noke RTC, Ohio University, Presbyterian College, Southeastern University (NAIA), University of Maryland, University of Minnesota/Gopher Wrestling Club, University of North Carolina, University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, University of Virginia, Virginia Military Institute (VMI), Virginia Tech and West Virginia University.

Tickets for the tournament must be purchased at the venue on the day of competition; there are no pre-event ticket sales. Adult tickets are $15 and high school student tickets are $10.

NC State will have wrestlers competing across eight weight classes: Brad Yokum (125 lbs.), Troy Hohman (133 lbs.), Gavin Linsman (141 lbs.), Koy Buesgens (#14) and Luca Felix (149 lbs.), Trevor Kantor, Tyler Tracy, Latrell Schafer and Brogan Tucker (157 lbs.), Aaron Faison and Pete Winterstein (165 lbs.), Andrew Macchiavello, Rylan Breen and Jesse Mullis (184 lbs.) and Xavier Wilson (285 lbs.).

The Atlantic Coast Conference features five teams ranked in the national top-25 during this opening week: No. 7 NC State leads among ACC schools followed by No. 10 Virginia Tech and others.

Seven out of ten weight classes for NC State include a wrestler ranked by InterMat; five hold positions within the top ten nationally. In individual rankings by InterMat: Vincent Robinson is ranked first at 125 pounds; Zach Redding is nineteenth at 133; Ryan Jack is seventh at 141; Koy Buesgens fourteenth at 149; Jackson Arrington seventh at 157; Matty Singleton fifth at 174; Isaac Trumble third at heavyweight.
