The N.C. Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve has announced the schedule for its Spring local advisory committee meetings, set to take place on April 22-23. The meetings will be held in-person and are open to the public.

The meeting for the Rachel Carson Reserve is scheduled for April 22 at 3 p.m. and will be conducted at the NOAA Beaufort Laboratory, Administration Building located at 101 Pivers Island Rd, Beaufort, NC 28516. The Kitty Hawk Woods Reserve meeting will occur on April 23 at 1 p.m. at the Kitty Hawk Town Hall, 101 Veterans Memorial Dr, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949.

These local advisory committees are comprised of residents and representatives from community organizations, government agencies, and non-governmental partner organizations. They provide guidance and feedback to the Division of Coastal Management’s Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve staff regarding program activities and management of the reserve sites.

The North Carolina Division of Coastal Management, part of the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality, focuses on protecting, conserving, and managing the state’s coastal resources in the 20 coastal counties. The N.C. Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve Program works to preserve natural areas for educational purposes, research, and compatible traditional uses. Since 1989, the program has helped conserve over 44,000 acres of unique coastal environments at 10 sites along the North Carolina coast.
