The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries has issued a reminder to individuals holding commercial fishing, seafood dealer, and for-hire licenses and permits to renew these documents early. The suggestion aims to help licensees avoid the rush and long wait times expected in late June.

To facilitate the renewal process, the Division has dispatched renewal packets, which include an application form and a self-addressed, prepaid envelope, to those who renewed by mail last year. These individuals have the option to submit their renewals by mail or drop-box. Those who did not receive a mailed packet must complete renewals in person but have the option to request a mail packet for subsequent renewals.

The Division advises anyone with questions to contact their local licensing office either by telephone or email at License@deq.nc.gov. Office hours are specified as Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Commercial fishing, seafood dealer, and for-hire licenses for 2025 are valid until June 30, and the new 2026 licenses will be effective starting July 1. Coastal Recreational Fishing Licenses operate by a different expiration schedule, based on the date of purchase. Recreational fishing and hunting licenses can be renewed or purchased online, via phone, or at various outdoor retail locations.
