Jabil Inc., a leader in engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing solutions, plans to create 1,181 new jobs in Rowan County, North Carolina. The company announced an investment of approximately $500 million over several years to establish a manufacturing facility aimed at supporting cloud and AI data center customers.

Governor Josh Stein stated, “Companies that are already operating in North Carolina know the value of doing business in our state better than anyone. We welcome Jabil’s expansion, and we are committed to further developing the largest manufacturing workforce in the southeast and the business-friendly climate they need for this next phase of growth.”

Jabil is headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida, with a global presence across more than 25 countries and 140,000 employees. The company has three locations in North Carolina and serves various industries including AI data center infrastructure and robotics.

Matt Crowley, Executive Vice President of Global Business Units at Jabil said, “The drive to build AI data centers is only accelerating in the United States. We are excited to help meet that demand.”

Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley remarked on North Carolina’s environment conducive for innovation: “Our ecosystem of workforce training partnerships…is sure to ignite the advancement of this next generation technology.”

The planned jobs could result in an annual payroll impact exceeding $73.2 million for the region. Jabil’s expansion will be supported by a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) approved by the state’s Economic Investment Committee. Over its 12-year term, this project is expected to enhance the state’s economy by $3.2 billion.

Under JDIG terms considering $264 million from Jabil’s investment alongside tax revenues from new jobs created, potential reimbursement up to $11,251,800 over 12 years may occur upon meeting job creation targets verified by Commerce and Revenue departments.

State Senator Carl Ford expressed enthusiasm: “These new jobs are proof that our state…investments…are paying off.” Representative Harry Warren highlighted regional advantages: “Our community is centrally located along to East Coast…thanks to well-connected transportation network.”

Other partners involved include North Carolina Department of Commerce; Economic Development Partnership; General Assembly; Division Workforce Solutions; Community College System; Rowan-Cabarrus Community College among others.

Since January 1st alone under Governor Stein’s administration nearly $17 billion capital investments have been announced creating over 19k good-paying jobs statewide.
