Isaac Trumble won the heavyweight national title at 285 pounds on March 21 by completing an undefeated season at the Rocket Arena in Cleveland during the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships. Trumble defeated Iowa State’s top-seeded Yonger Bastida with a score of 5-0, becoming NC State’s tenth national champion.

Trumble secured his victory after a scoreless first period, earning an escape and a takedown in the second period to take control of the match. A riding time point added to his lead as he finished his final collegiate bout as a sixth-year senior.

Trumble is now the fifth NC State wrestler to win a national championship at 285 pounds, following Nick Gwiazdowski’s back-to-back titles in 2014 and 2015. His win helped propel NC State into tenth place on the team leaderboard with a total of 44.5 points, moving ahead of Virginia Tech. The Wolfpack has now finished in the top ten of NCAA final team scores six times under head coach Pat Popolizio.

The match marked the end of Trumble’s college career, where he compiled an overall record of 88-20 across both the 197-pound and 285-pound divisions. Originally from Springfield, Nebraska, Trumble plans to begin his career in the U.S. Army Infantry as a field artillery officer.

This marks Trumble’s second consecutive season earning All-American honors; last year he placed fourth despite competing with injuries to his ACL, MCL, and meniscus. The Wolfpack also celebrates having individual national champions for two straight seasons, with Vincent Robinson winning last year’s title at 125 pounds.

The final results from Session Six saw Isaac Trumble defeat Yonger Bastida by a score of five to zero.
