The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Marvin Jose Vasquez-Martinez on Indiana rape and child molestation warrants. He is currently held on a $1 million bond with an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer following his July 16 arrest in North Carolina.
According to WBTV, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies assisted the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Violent Crime Apprehension Unit and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Violent Crime Task Force in locating and arresting 19-year-old Vasquez-Martinez. The suspect was wanted in Indiana on warrants for rape and child molestation and was taken into custody without incident. The station further reports he appeared before a magistrate, during which his immigration status was flagged.
WCNC states that Vasquez-Martinez faced a fugitive arrest warrant related to Indiana charges of rape and child molestation. Iredell County authorities booked him into the detention center with a secured bond set at $1,000,000. After intake, federal authorities were contacted, resulting in an immigration detainer being lodged with the jail. The outlet credits the joint operation among ICSO, CMPD’s VCAT, and the FBI task force for coordinating the arrest.
The FBI Indianapolis field office publicly acknowledged the case, stating that “a man wanted on multiple felony charges in Indiana was taken into custody Wednesday in North Carolina,” identifying him as Marvin Jose Vasquez-Martinez. This statement aligns with local reports on the July 16 apprehension and indicates coordination between federal and local partners.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office emphasizes its mission “to make our county a safe place to live, raise a family, grow a business, to worship, and enjoy recreation,” providing patrols, investigations, detention services, and community programs across the county. Sheriff Darren Campbell leads the agency.
