The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office arrested James Ray Bost on May 5 after an investigation into multiple reports of vehicles being shot with a pellet gun in the 1000 block of Perth Road near Troutman.

Authorities say the case is significant because it involved repeated assaults on motorists over several months, raising concerns about public safety for residents and drivers in the area.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies began receiving reports as early as February from motorists whose vehicles had been struck by pellets while driving through the area. Detectives conducted interviews with local residents and set up digital surveillance equipment to monitor activity. Evidence gathered from these efforts led investigators to identify Bost as a suspect. On May 2, another incident was reported, prompting detectives to review hours of surveillance footage. They determined that shots were fired from Bost’s driveway at 1022 Perth Road.

Detectives obtained arrest and search warrants based on this evidence. When executing these warrants on May 5, they recovered a BB rifle and other weapons capable of firing pellets or BBs, along with numerous pellets from Bost’s residence. He was charged with eight counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon and eight counts of misdemeanor injury to personal property. Magistrate T. Thompson issued a $50,000 secured bond following his appearance before the court.

Sheriff Darren Campbell said, “The detectives involved in this case put in a lot of hard work and time to conduct surveillance and utilized the surveillance tools necessary to obtain enough evidence to bring justice to those who had been victimized by Bost. I also want to thank the residents and community members who remained vigilant and continued to communicate with law enforcement throughout this investigation. Their cooperation and willingness to report information played an important role in helping us bring this case to a close.”

Detectives are continuing their review into other cases that may be connected to Bost; anyone with additional information is encouraged by authorities to contact the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
