U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that its Atlanta office arrested 56-year-old Isidro Garcia-Gomez from Mexico on September 28. The announcement was made in a press bulletin.

The arrest of Isidro Garcia-Gomez underscores ICE’s ongoing efforts to target and apprehend foreign nationals convicted of serious sexual offenses within the United States. Garcia-Gomez was previously convicted in Wake County, North Carolina, for a first-degree sex offense against a child and for indecent liberties with a child. Such offenses fall under ICE’s priority for enforcement against individuals posing significant threats to public safety. The operation aligns with the agency’s mandate to identify, locate, and remove criminal noncitizens from U.S. communities, reinforcing its public safety mission.

According to ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), the agency removed more than 170,000 noncitizens with criminal convictions or pending charges in Fiscal Year 2023. Of those, over 7,500 were offenders convicted of sexual crimes involving minors. These operations are part of ICE’s nationwide public safety initiative designed to disrupt criminal networks and safeguard communities from repeat offenders.

Data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics indicate that approximately 12 percent of all federal sex offense arrests in recent years involved noncitizens, reflecting a consistent enforcement challenge for immigration authorities. The report also shows that repeat offenses among this group have decreased following coordinated ICE operations with state and local law enforcement agencies.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), established in 2003 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., operates under the Department of Homeland Security. The agency’s mission is to protect the United States from cross-border crime and illegal immigration that threaten national security and public safety. ICE conducts criminal investigations through Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and oversees immigration enforcement via Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), focusing on the identification, detention, and removal of individuals who violate immigration laws or pose safety risks.
