The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of 39-year-old Yoni Cifuentes Perez, who has been charged with first-degree murder following a fatal stabbing incident at a residence in Jamestown, North Carolina.
According to deputies from the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, they responded to a reported stabbing around 10:41 p.m. on March 8, 2025, on the 6000 block of Devoncourt Place. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man with life-threatening injuries and administered first aid until Guilford County Emergency Services pronounced the victim deceased. Investigators identified Perez as the suspect; he was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is currently held without bond at the Guilford County Detention Center in High Point as detectives work to determine the motive behind the attack.
In 2024, Guilford County law enforcement recorded 27 homicides, reflecting a 15% decrease from 2023, according to state crime statistics. Despite this decline, domestic and interpersonal violence-related murders—often involving knives or household weapons—continue to account for nearly one-third of homicide cases in the county. Local authorities have expanded crisis response and victim services units in response to these incidents.
Statewide data from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety indicated that there were 597 homicides in 2024, with approximately 18% involving sharp instruments. Studies by the North Carolina Violent Death Reporting System reveal that most homicide suspects had prior arrests and nearly 40% of such cases occur in private residences.
