A Greenville gang member, Leonard Williams Jr., has been sentenced to six years in prison for drug and firearm offenses. Williams Jr., aged 36, pleaded guilty on February 18, 2025, to charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

Court documents reveal that the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force conducted controlled purchases of cocaine from Williams Jr. during July and August 2024. On August 12, law enforcement searched a residence linked to him on Ward Street, discovering over an ounce of cocaine and a loaded .40 caliber handgun in the bedroom. Authorities confirmed that Williams Jr. is a validated member of the Crips street gang’s 83 set. He also has a prior conviction from 2016 for conspiracy to commit second-degree murder.

This case was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation. The OCDETF aims to identify and dismantle high-level drug traffickers and criminal organizations threatening the United States through a coordinated approach involving federal, state, and local agencies.

Daniel P. Bubar, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, announced the sentencing by U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Severo prosecuting.
