The Greene County Board of County Commissioners announced on May 6 that its meeting scheduled for Monday, May 18 will now take place at 10:00 AM instead of the originally planned time of 5:00 PM. The date remains unchanged.
This change is important for residents who plan to attend or follow the board’s proceedings, as it affects public participation and scheduling.
According to recent data, college readiness among students in Greene County school districts remains a concern. Of the senior students taking the science portion of the ACT in the 2022-23 school year, only 16 out of 186 (8.6%) were considered ready for college, while among juniors, just 13 out of 184 (7.1%) met this benchmark according to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. In reading, results showed that among seniors, 28 out of 186 (15.1%) were deemed ready for college and among juniors, this figure was slightly lower at 23 out of 184 (12.5%), also according to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
In math and English portions of the ACT exam taken by seniors in Greene County schools during the same period, only about one in twelve students demonstrated college readiness—16 out of 186 (8.6%) in math and a higher rate in English with 34 out of 186 (18.3%), as reported by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
The next steps will include holding the rescheduled meeting at its new time and continuing efforts to improve educational outcomes within local schools.
