FOIA Request to Wake County Register of Deeds Regarding Property Sales Records/Transactions on May 2, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Old North News have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Wake County Register of Deeds. Our request seeks access to a detailed list of all properties and their most recent sales, including essential metadata related to these transactions. Specifically, we are requesting information such as the Recorded Instrument ID, Transaction Date, Transaction Amount, Transaction Type, Buyer Name, and Seller Name.

Access to public records is crucial for us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. It enables us to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver due to our role in disseminating information.

Our request is further supported by our affiliation with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Missouri Corporation. This organization assists news media companies, publications, and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. By leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, we aim to pull back the curtain on government actions and help inform the American electorate.

We look forward to receiving the requested information promptly and are open to addressing any questions or clarifications needed by the Wake County Register of Deeds.
