FOIA Request to Wake County regarding vendor payment register on February 1, 2026.
A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by Old North News to Wake County on February 1, 2026. The request seeks access to the county’s vendor payment register for the preceding calendar month. The requested records include the names of vendors paid by the county, dates and amounts of payments, and descriptions of goods or services purchased.
The request was made under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., with a preference for receiving the information in electronic format. Old North News emphasizes that this request is aimed at gathering information of public interest for dissemination to the public and does not require the creation of new documents.
The news organization also requests that if any part of this request is denied or withheld, Wake County should provide a specific statutory basis for such denial and release all reasonably segregable portions of the records. Additionally, Old North News has asked for a fee waiver as a media professional due to their role in gathering and reporting news to hold public institutions accountable.
