FOIA Request to Union County Tax Administration Regarding Property Tax Records 2024 – Present on May 12, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Old North News have submitted a request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1. We are seeking access to property tax records for properties within Union County for the year 2024 and any available data for 2025. Specifically, we have requested information including Parcel ID, Year, Tax Value, and Assessed Value.

Access to these public records is crucial for us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities of holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency. As members of the media, we believe we qualify for a fee waiver due to our role in disseminating information to the public.

Additionally, it is important to note that this request is supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. More information about their mission can be found at [https://stopsecrecy.org/about/](https://stopsecrecy.org/about/).

We await a response from the Union County Tax Administration and are prepared to address any questions they may have regarding this request.
