FOIA Request to Town of Severn regarding procurement bids and RFP submissions on February 1, 2026.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by Old North News to the Town of Severn on February 1, 2026. The request seeks access to records concerning procurement bids and responses to requests for proposals (RFPs) received by the city during the immediately preceding calendar month. This inquiry is made under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. ยง132-1.

The requested records include details such as solicitation or project titles, names of bidders or proposers, submission dates, bid amounts or proposed costs, and descriptions of the goods or services proposed. The purpose of this request is to gather information that is in the public interest for dissemination to the public. It is specified that this request pertains only to existing records and does not necessitate the creation of new documents.

Old North News has expressed a preference for receiving these records in electronic format if available. In case any part of this request is denied or withheld, they have asked for a specific statutory basis for such denial and requested that all reasonably segregable portions of the records be released.

The organization also highlighted its role in gathering and reporting news to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency. As members of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, they assist media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies using FOIA laws.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
