A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by Old North News to the Town of Rural Hall, North Carolina, seeking records related to new or amended contracts. The request was made under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., and aims to obtain these records in an electronic format if possible.

The request specifically seeks copies of the town’s new contracts and any amendments to existing contracts that were executed, approved, or became effective during the immediately preceding calendar month. The information requested includes contract or amendment titles, names of contracting parties, effective and approval dates, contract amounts or amended values, and descriptions of the goods or services covered.

The purpose of this request is to gather information of public interest for dissemination. It is important to note that the request is limited to records that currently exist and does not require the creation of new documents. If any portion of this request is denied or withheld, Old North News has asked for a specific statutory basis for the denial and requests all reasonably segregable portions of the records be released.

Old North News also highlighted its role as a media organization committed to providing comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs. As such, they have requested a fee waiver based on their status as a member of the media.

The requestor is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
