FOIA Request to Town of Pineville regarding vendor payment registers on February 1, 2026.

A request for public records has been submitted to the Town of Pineville by Old North News under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. ยง132-1. The request seeks access to the city’s vendor payment register for the immediately preceding calendar month. This request is aimed at obtaining information that serves the public interest and will be used for news dissemination purposes.

The specific records requested include details such as the names of vendors paid by the city, dates and amounts of payments, and descriptions of goods or services purchased. The requester has emphasized that this inquiry is limited to existing records and does not necessitate the creation of new documents. Additionally, there is a preference for receiving these records in electronic format if they are available.

Old North News has also expressed their role in holding public institutions accountable through transparency and reporting. As part of this process, they have requested a fee waiver due to their status as a media organization. They have further stated that if any part of this request is denied or withheld, they seek an explanation citing the specific statutory basis for such denial while requesting all reasonably segregable portions of the records be released.

This request was made with support from The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency within governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.

Our team will continue to keep you updated as we gather and report news related to this request and other matters of public interest. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification regarding this matter.
