FOIA Request to Randolph County regarding vendor payment register on February 1, 2026.
A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by Old North News to Randolph County, North Carolina, seeking access to the county’s vendor payment register for the preceding calendar month. The request was made under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1, and seeks records in an electronic format if available.
The requested records include details such as the names of vendors paid by the county, dates and amounts of payments, and descriptions of goods or services purchased. The request is aimed at gathering information of public interest for dissemination to the public and is limited to existing records without requiring the creation of new documents.
Old North News has emphasized its role in providing comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs and has requested a fee waiver based on its status as a media organization. The organization is also affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit corporation that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through FOIA requests.
Of 1,226 senior students taking the science portion of the ACT in Randolph County school districts, 195 (15.9%) were considered ready for college in the 2022-23 school year.
