FOIA Request to New Hanover County Register Of Deeds Regarding Property Sales Records/Transactions on May 2, 2025.

We at Old North News have submitted a formal request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., seeking access to comprehensive property sales records from the New Hanover County Register Of Deeds. Our inquiry specifically asks for a list of all properties and their most recent sale, accompanied by detailed metadata related to these transactions. The requested information includes the Recorded Instrument ID, Transaction Date, Transaction Amount, Transaction Type, Buyer Name, and Seller Name.

As a media organization dedicated to delivering accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we emphasize the importance of transparency and accountability in public institutions. Access to these records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities in informing the public and ensuring governmental actions are visible and understandable.

In our request, we also highlighted our association with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that supports media entities in utilizing Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. This collaboration aims to enhance public awareness by uncovering government activities and contributing to an informed electorate.

We have requested that this information be provided in electronic format and have applied for a fee waiver given our role as members of the media. We look forward to receiving these records promptly and will continue to keep the public informed about developments in this matter.
