FOIA Request to Moore County regarding new or amended contracts for 2024 on January 16, 2026.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to Moore County, North Carolina, by Old North News on January 16, 2026. The request seeks access to copies of all newly executed contracts or amendments entered into by the county between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024. The areas of interest specified in the request include public works, information technology or digital services, and consulting or professional services.

The request emphasizes that it applies only to existing records and specifically asks for signed contracts or amendments executed during the stated period. An electronic format is preferred for these documents where possible.

Old North News has highlighted its role as a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. Access to public records is deemed essential for fulfilling their professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency. In line with this role, they have requested a fee waiver typically available to media professionals.

The requestor is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization based in Missouri. This coalition assists news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies through the use of Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. More information about this organization can be found at https://stopsecrecy.org/about/.

Of note within Moore County’s educational context is that out of 924 senior students taking the science portion of the ACT in local school districts during the 2022-23 school year, only 272 students (29.4%) were considered ready for college.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
