FOIA Request to Montgomery County regarding vendor payment register on February 1, 2026.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by Old North News to Montgomery County, North Carolina, seeking access to the county’s vendor payment register for the previous calendar month. The request, sent on February 1, 2026, aims to obtain detailed records of financial transactions conducted by the county with various vendors.

The requested records include the names of vendors paid by the county, the dates and amounts of these payments, and descriptions of the goods or services purchased. This information is sought under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., and Old North News has expressed a preference for receiving this data in electronic format.

The request emphasizes that it seeks existing records only and does not require the creation of new documents. Additionally, should any part of this request be denied or withheld, Old North News has asked for a specific statutory basis for such denial and requests that all reasonably segregable portions of the records be released.

Old North News is a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs. As part of its mission to hold public institutions accountable and ensure transparency, it has requested a fee waiver based on its role in disseminating information to the public.

The requestor is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating government agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. More information about this coalition can be found at https://stopsecrecy.org/about/.

Of 195 senior students taking the reading portion of the ACT in Montgomery County school districts, 31 (15.9%) were considered ready for college in the 2022-23 school year.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
