FOIA Request to Mecklenburg County Register of Deeds Regarding Property Sales Records/Transactions on May 2, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, Old North News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Mecklenburg County Register of Deeds. The request seeks access to records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., specifically asking for a list of all properties and their most recent sales. We have requested that this information be provided in electronic format.

The details we are seeking include:

– Recorded Instrument ID
– Transaction Date
– Transaction Amount
– Transaction Type
– Buyer Name
– Seller Name

Access to these public records is crucial for us as members of the media. It enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we qualify for a fee waiver as media professionals.

Additionally, it is important to note that we are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Missouri Corporation. This organization assists news media companies, publications, and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. By leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, we aim to pull back the curtain on government actions and help inform the American electorate.

We look forward to receiving the requested information and will continue our efforts to provide transparent reporting on matters affecting our community.
