Old North News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Iredell County, North Carolina, seeking access to the county’s vendor payment register for the preceding calendar month. The request was sent on February 1, 2026, and aims to obtain records that detail financial transactions made by the county with various vendors.

The specific information requested includes the names of vendors paid by the county, dates and amounts of payments, and descriptions of goods or services purchased. The request emphasizes that it seeks existing records only and does not require the creation of new documents. Old North News has expressed a preference for receiving this information in electronic format.

In their communication, Old North News highlights its role as a media organization dedicated to reporting on local governmental affairs. They emphasize the importance of public record access in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency. Additionally, they have requested a fee waiver for accessing these records due to their status as a media professional.

The requestor is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating government actions through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. More information about this organization can be found on their website: https://stopsecrecy.org/about/.
