FOIA Request to Harnett County regarding vendor payment register on February 1, 2026.
A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by Old North News to Harnett County on February 1, 2026. The request seeks access to the county’s vendor payment register for the preceding calendar month. The requested records include the names of vendors paid by the county, dates and amounts of payments, and descriptions of goods or services purchased. This information is sought under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., with a preference for receiving it in electronic format.
The purpose of this request is to gather information of public interest for dissemination to the public. Old North News emphasizes that the request is limited to existing records and does not require the creation of new documents. If any part of the request is denied or withheld, they have asked for a specific statutory basis for such denial and requested that all reasonably segregable portions be released.
Old North News, as a member of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy—a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating governmental agencies—asserts its role in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency. They have also requested a fee waiver due to their status as media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news.
Of note, Harnett County has been highlighted recently with data showing that out of 1,225 senior students taking the science portion of the ACT in its school districts, only 202 (16.5%) were considered ready for college in the 2022-23 school year.
Our team will continue to keep you updated as we gather and report news related to this request and other matters of public interest. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification regarding this matter.
