FOIA Request to Guilford County Register of Deeds Regarding Property Sales Records/Transactions on May 2, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, Old North News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Guilford County Register of Deeds. The request seeks access to a list of all properties and their most recent sales, along with all available metadata related to these transactions. Specifically, we have requested details such as the Recorded Instrument ID, Transaction Date, Transaction Amount, Transaction Type, Buyer Name, and Seller Name.

Access to public records is essential for us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Our role includes holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver due to our efforts in disseminating information.

Additionally, this request is supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Missouri Corporation that assists news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. This coalition leverages Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws to shed light on government actions and help inform the American electorate.

We await a response from the Guilford County Register of Deeds and are prepared to address any questions they may have regarding this request.
