FOIA Request to Forsyth County Register of Deeds Regarding Property Sales Records on May 2, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, Old North News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Forsyth County Register of Deeds. We are seeking access to records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., specifically requesting a list of all properties and their most recent sales, along with all available metadata related to these transactions.
The requested information includes essential details such as Recorded Instrument ID, Transaction Date, Transaction Amount, Transaction Type, Buyer Name, and Seller Name. Access to these public records is crucial for us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. It enables us to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public.
In line with our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals. Additionally, we are members of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. Through leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, we aim to pull back the curtain on government actions and help inform the American electorate.
We await a response from the Forsyth County Register of Deeds and remain committed to keeping the public informed about developments in this matter.
