FOIA Request to City of Washington regarding new or amended contracts on February 1, 2026.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the City of Washington by Old North News, seeking access to specific public records. The request pertains to obtaining copies of the city’s new contracts and any amendments to existing contracts that were executed, approved, or became effective during the immediately preceding calendar month.

The requested records include details such as the contract or amendment title, names of contracting parties, effective and approval dates, contract amounts or amended values, and descriptions of the goods or services covered. The purpose of this request is to gather information of public interest for dissemination to the public. The requester emphasized that the records sought are limited to those that currently exist and do not require the creation of new documents.

In case any portion of this request is denied or withheld, Old North News has asked for a specific statutory basis for the denial and requests that all reasonably segregable portions of the records be released. The organization expressed willingness to receive these records in electronic format if available.

As a member of the media involved in gathering and reporting news, Old North News seeks a fee waiver based on their role in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency. The requestor is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating governmental agencies using Freedom of Information laws.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
