FOIA Request to City of Hickory regarding new or amended contracts on February 1, 2026.

The Old North News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Hickory, North Carolina. The request seeks access to records concerning new contracts and amendments to existing contracts that were executed, approved, or became effective during the immediately preceding calendar month.

The requested information includes details such as the title of the contract or amendment, names of contracting parties, effective and approval dates, contract amounts or amended values, and descriptions of the goods or services covered. The purpose of this request is to gather information of public interest for dissemination to the public. It specifically targets records that currently exist and does not require the creation of new documents.

The Old North News has expressed willingness to receive these records in electronic format if available. Additionally, they have requested that if any portion of this request is denied or withheld, the City provide a specific statutory basis for such denial while releasing all reasonably segregable portions of the records.

As a member of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, Old North News emphasizes its role in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency. They have also requested a fee waiver due to their status as a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
