FOIA Request to City of Charlotte regarding new or amended contracts on February 1, 2026.

The City of Charlotte has received a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request from Old North News. The request seeks access to records concerning new contracts and amendments to existing contracts that were executed, approved, or became effective during the immediately preceding calendar month. This request is made under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. ยง132-1.

Old North News has specified that they are interested in obtaining electronic copies of these records, if available. The requested documents should include details such as the contract or amendment title, names of contracting parties, effective and approval dates, contract amounts or amended values, and descriptions of the goods or services covered.

The request emphasizes that it is limited to records that currently exist and does not require the creation of new documents. In case any portion of this request is denied or withheld, Old North News has asked for the specific statutory basis for the denial and requests the release of all reasonably segregable portions of the records.

As a member of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, Old North News is committed to investigating state and federal governmental agencies using Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. Their mission is to enhance transparency by informing the American electorate about government actions.

The City of Charlotte works toward a safe and equitable community through principles of accountability and innovation. Vi Lyles leads as mayor while Marcus D. Jones oversees operations in a council-manager government featuring the mayor and 11 council members. According to the official website, the city uses a structured setup with departments to promote efficient services and strategic international efforts.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
