FOIA Request to Buncombe County Register of Deeds Regarding Property Sales Records/Transactions on May 2, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Old North News have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Buncombe County Register of Deeds. Our request seeks access to records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., specifically requesting a list of all properties and their most recent sales. We have asked for this information in electronic format for ease of analysis and dissemination.

The requested data includes detailed metadata related to property sales transactions such as Recorded Instrument ID, Transaction Date, Transaction Amount, Transaction Type, Buyer Name, and Seller Name. Access to these public records is crucial for us as media professionals dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.

In our pursuit of transparency and accountability in government actions, we are supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. This non-profit organization assists media companies like ours in leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws to investigate state and federal governmental agencies.

We believe that our role in disseminating information qualifies us for a fee waiver as we continue our mission to inform the American electorate about governmental activities.
